Guidance on Political Activity for University of Arizona Employees

Aug. 12, 2019

Tucson Primary Election Day is August 27, and registered Democrat voters in the City of Tucson have been mailed their Primary Election ballot.  Voters will be selecting candidates for Tucson Mayor, and Councilmembers for Wards 1, 2, and 4. This is a good time to remind all University of Arizona employees and DCCs about political activity policies.

Based on Arizona statues and ABOR policy, the University of Arizona shall not use, directly or by implication, the name of the University or their affiliation with the University in the endorsement of political candidates, initiatives, or referendums, or in supporting or opposing a position on other political issues. (https://policy.arizona.edu/employment-human-resources/political-activit…).

University employees and DCCs are prohibited from using University resources (including personnel or equipment) to influence the outcome of elections or to advocate support for or opposition to pending or proposed legislation.  Additionally, University units may not engage in political activities or take positions on public policy controversies.
